Through the Leaves
Written by F.X. Kroetz
Translated by Roger Downey
Directed by Andy Hager
Produced by the side project theatre company
Through the Leaves is the story of a lonely middle-aged female butcher and the caustic, emotionally abusive laborer who becomes her lover. Written and set in 1976 Germany, the side project’s starkly naturalistic two-hander explores the complexities of the conflicting desires to dominate and to be cared for.
The side project theatre production of Through the Leaves shoots out of the gate for 2014 as an early contender for one of the best.
-Kat Hey, Chicago Theater Beat
Episodic in structure and flatly realist in dialogue…it skillfully sketches the anomie of its 1970s German setting.
